Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari (1876-1948) was een Italiaans operacomponist met Duitse wortels, geboren en overleden in Venetië. Hij staat bekend om zijn komische opera's, waarvan 'Il segreto di Susanna' uit 1909 zijn meest beroemde werk is. Wolf-Ferrari was een meester in het vertalen van toneelstukken van Carlo Goldoni naar muziek, zoals in 'Le donne curiose' (1903) en 'I quatro rusteghi' (1906). Zijn werk omvat zowel komische als realistische opera's, en hij bleef zich afzijdig houden van de moderne innovaties van zijn tijd, zoals de dodecafonie. Naast zijn muzikale carrière was Wolf-Ferrari ook een leraar en een schrijver. Zijn levenswerk biedt een rijke en veelzijdige muzikale erfenis die zijn unieke stijl en talenten weerspiegelt.
