Carl Maria von Weber, geboren op 18 of 19 november 1786 in Eutin, was een Duitse componist, dirigent en pianist die een cruciale rol speelde in de ontwikkeling van de romantische opera. Weber wordt vaak beschouwd als de vader van de Duitse romantische opera, met zijn meesterwerk "Der Freischütz" als hoogtepunt. Deze opera, die in 1821 in première ging, legde de basis voor de romantische Duitse opera en wordt nog steeds wereldwijd opgevoerd.
