Christopher Tye was een vooraanstaande Engels-Renaissance componist en organist, geboren rond 1505 in Cambridgeshire. Hij studeerde aan de Universiteit van Cambridge en werd later de meester van het koor van de kathedraal van Ely. Tye was ook de muziekleraar van koning Edward VI en genoot grote waardering voor zijn koormuziek en kamermuziek, waaronder zijn beroemde 24 polyfone 'In nomines'. Hoewel slechts een klein deel van zijn werk bewaard is gebleven, werd zijn 'Acts of the Apostles' tijdens zijn leven gepubliceerd. Tye was niet alleen een componist, maar ook een dichter en priester, en hij wordt beschouwd als een innovator in de stijl van de Engelse kathedraalmuziek, die later werd verfijnd door Thomas Tallis.
