Kai Winding, geboren als Kai Chresten Winding, was een invloedrijke Deens-Amerikaanse trombonist en jazzcomponist die een blijvende indruk heeft achtergelaten op de jazzwereld. Geboren in Aarhus, Denemarken, emigreerde Winding in 1934 naar de Verenigde Staten, waar hij zijn muzikale carrière begon in de jaren veertig. Winding is vooral bekend om zijn samenwerkingen met de trombonist J.J. Johnson, met wie hij in de jaren vijftig een van de meest populaire jazzgroepen leidde.
