"Symphony While the Swans Come Forward" is een opwindend album dat de klassieke en koormuziek van de Engelse componist Henry Purcell in een nieuw daglicht stelt. Dit album, uitgebracht op 1 juni 2018 door Challenge Classics, biedt een levendige en authentieke interpretatie van Purcells werken, uitgevoerd door het ensemble La Sfera Armoniosa onder leiding van Mike Fentross. Met de bekende sopraan Johannette Zomer als gastzangeres, brengt dit album een selectie uit Purcells vier belangrijkste semi-opera's: "The Fairy Queen," "The Indian Queen," "King Arthur" en "The Prophetess."
Wat dit album uniek maakt, is de keuze voor authentieke instrumenten en een orkestgeluid dat dichter bij dat van Purcells tijd is. In plaats van de gebruikelijke barokinstrumentatie, werkt La Sfera Armoniosa met historisch correcte instrumenten, waaronder nieuw gemaakte zilveren trompetten zonder vingergaten. Dit resulteert in een klank die mogelijk dichter bij Purcells oorspronkelijke visie ligt.
Het album omvat een verscheidenheid aan instrumentale stukken en aria's, variërend van dansmuziek zoals "Butterfly Dance" en "Hornpipe" tot meer dramatische werken zoals "Dance of Furies" en "Symphony While the Swans Come Forward." De opname is live, wat een extra laag van levendigheid en intensiteit toevoegt aan de muziek.
