Stephen Dodgson (1924-2013) was een veelzijdig Britse componist en radiopresentator, wiens muziek een breed scala aan genres omspant, van opera en orkestwerken tot kamermuziek, koorwerken en liederen. Zijn werk is vooral bekend om zijn unieke instrumentale combinaties en zijn toegewijde aandacht aan instrumenten zoals de gitaar, klavecimbel en blokfluit. Geboren in Chelsea, studeerde Dodgson aan het Royal College of Music en doceerde er vanaf 1965. Zijn meer dan 250 composities, waaronder zijn beroemde gitaarwerken, getuigen van zijn talent voor zowel traditionele als onconventionele tonale stijlen.
