Bedřich Smetana, geboren op 2 maart 1824 in Litomyšl en overleden op 12 mei 1884 in Praag, is een van de meest invloedrijke Tsjechische componisten uit de romantische periode. Hij wordt vaak beschouwd als de vader van de Tsjechische nationale muziek en heeft een diepe indruk achtergelaten op generaties Tsjechische componisten.
