John Ogdon, geboren op 27 januari 1937 in Mansfield Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire, was een briljante Britse pianist en componist die de klassieke muziekwereld met zijn virtuositeit en genialiteit verbaasde. Ogdon studeerde aan de Manchester Grammar School en het Royal Northern College of Music, waar zijn talent al snel naar voren kwam. Zijn carrière als pianist bloeide tot hij in 1973 plotseling werd onderbroken. Ogdon was bekend om zijn enorme repertoire en zijn vermogen om complexe stukken uit zijn hoofd te spelen. Naast zijn pianistische vaardigheden componeerde Ogdon ook zelf, en zijn werken werden onder andere op Indiana University ten gehore gebracht. Ogdon overleed op 1 augustus 1989 in Londen, maar zijn erfenis leeft voort door de John Ogdon Foundation, die jonge muzikanten inspireert en ondersteunt.
