Florent Schmitt, geboren in 1870 en overleden in 1958, was een Franse componist wiens muziek bekend staat om haar kleurrijke en sfeervolle karakter. Schmitt studeerde bij illustere figuren zoals Jules Massenet en Gabriel Fauré, en won de prestigieuze Prix de Rome. Zijn werk omvat een breed scala aan genres, van balletmuziek zoals "La tragédie de Salomé" tot religieuze composities zoals zijn laatste opus, een vierstemmige Mis. Schmitts impressionistische stijl combineert diverse invloeden, wat resulteert in prachtig georkestreerde stukken die de tijdloze schoonheid van zijn muziek onderstreept.
