Cyril Rootham, geboren in 1875 in Bristol, was een veelzijdig Engels musicus die zich als organist, componist, leraar en dirigent een naam maakte. Na zijn studies aan het Royal College of Music in Londen, waar hij onderwezen werd door prominente figuren als Stanford, Parratt en Barton, begon Rootham een rijke muzikale carrière.
