Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, geboren op 18 maart 1844, was een invloedrijke Russische componist en een sleutelfiguur binnen de groep 'The Five'. Hij staat bekend om zijn meesterlijke orkestraties en zijn vermogen om Russische volksmuziek en exotische elementen te integreren in zijn composities.
