Ferdinand Ries, geboren in Bonn in 1784, was een Duitse componist en pianist wiens muziek een brug slaat tussen de klassieke en vroege romantische stijlen. Als vriend, leerling en secretaris van Ludwig van Beethoven, werd Ries sterk beïnvloed door de grote meester, wat zich duidelijk aftekent in zijn composities.
