Manuel María Ponce Cuéllar, beter bekend als Manuel M. Ponce, was een pionierende Mexicaanse componist van de 20e eeuw. Geboren in Fresnillo, Zacatecas, op 8 december 1882, en overleden in Mexico-Stad op 24 april 1948, staat Ponce bekend als de eerste Mexicaanse componist die internationaal succes behaalde met zijn klassieke muziek. Zijn werk is sterk beïnvloed door de harmonieën en vormen van traditionele Mexicaanse volksmuziek, waardoor hij de concertscène verbond met een vergeten traditie van populaire liedjes en folklore.
