Pierre de la Rue, geboren rond 1452 in Doornik en overleden in 1518 in Kortrijk, was een van de meest invloedrijke componisten en zangers van de Franco-Vlaamse school tijdens de Renaissance. Als tijdgenoot van Josquin des Prez en een langdurig lid van de Habsburg-Bourgondische kapel, staat hij bekend om zijn bijdragen aan de polyfone muziekstijl die de Renaissance domineerde. Zijn werk omvat een breed scala aan religieuze muziek, waaronder missen, motetten en requiems, die zijn meesterschap in de complexe polyfonie van die tijd tonen. De la Rue's muziek is een weerspiegeling van de rijkdom en de artistieke bloei van het Bourgondisch-Habsburgse hof, waar hij een vooraanstaande rol speelde.
