Michel Petrucciani, geboren in 1962 in Orange, Frankrijk, was een van de meest begaafde jazzpianisten van zijn generatie. Ondanks het feit dat hij van geboorte osteogenesis imperfecta had, een genetische aandoening die broze botten en een klein postuur veroorzaakt, groeide hij uit tot een grootheid in de jazzwereld. Petrucciani studeerde acht jaar lang klassieke piano voordat hij zich richtte op jazz, met Duke Ellington als zijn grootste inspiratiebron. Hij speelde samen met jazzlegendes zoals Dizzy Gillespie en werd bekend om zijn virtuoze pianospel en snelheid, met name zijn rechterhand.
