Allan Pettersson, geboren als Gustaf Allan Pettersson, was een invloedrijke Zweedse componist en altviolist van de 20e eeuw. Zijn unieke en vaak sombere symfonische werken hebben hem de reputatie gegeven als een van de laatste grote symfonisten, vaak vergeleken met Gustav Mahler. Pettersson's muziek is onmiskenbaar en staat bekend om zijn diepgaande emoties en intense expressie.

Zijn meest bekende werk is Symfonie Nr. 7, maar zijn volledige oeuvre omvat 17 symfonieën, waarvan de eerste en de laatste onvoltooid zijn gebleven.
