Over Olivier Greif

Olivier Greif was een Franse componist van Pools-Joodse afkomst, geboren in Parijs in 1950. Zijn vader overleefde de Holocaust in Auschwitz, een ervaring die een diepgaande invloed had op Greif's muziek. Hij componeerde verschillende werken die zich richten op de Holocaust, zoals "Todesfuge" en "Lettres de Westerbork," een liedcyclus gebaseerd op de brieven van Etty Hillesum. Greif's muziek is bekend om zijn magnetische emotionele kracht en zijn avant-gardistische stijl. Van 1976 tot zijn overlijden in 2000 volgde hij de spirituele leer van de Indiase meester Sri Chinmoy, wat zijn werk een diep spirituele dimensie gaf. Greif's muziek is compromisloos en roept sterke emoties op, waarbij elke compositie een unieke reis is.
