Mihály Mosonyi, geboren als Brand Michael op 2 september 1815 in Boldogasszony, was een invloedrijk Hongaarse componist en muziekpedagoog uit de romantische periode. Samen met Liszt Ferenc en Erkel Ferenc wordt hij beschouwd als een van de belangrijkste figuren in de Hongaarse muziekgeschiedenis. Mosonyi's leven was zowel artistiek als persoonlijk opwindend en tragisch. Na het voltooien van zijn studies in Pozsony begon hij een carrière als componist en muziekschrijver. Zijn werk omvat een breed scala aan genres, waaronder pianomuziek. In 1859 veranderde hij zijn naam van G. Brand in Mihály Mosonyi. Zijn persoonlijke leven was echter geteisterd door tragedie, toen zijn vrouw Paulina, de zus van de schilder Henrik Weber, na slechts zes jaar huwelijk in 1851 overleed.
