Ernest John Moeran (1894-1950) was een Engelse componist met Ierse wortels, wiens muziek sterk beïnvloed is door de volksmuziek van Engeland en Ierland. Moeran, die vaak Jack werd genoemd, werd geboren in Heston en groeide op in het dorp Bacton aan de kust van Norfolk. Zijn muziekstudies deed hij aan het Royal College of Music en bij John Ireland, en hij werd sterk beïnvloed door Frederick Delius. Moeran was een ijverig verzamelaar van volksmuziek, wat duidelijk terug te horen is in zijn composities. Zijn oeuvre omvat orkestwerken, concerten, kamermuziek, pianowerken en een aantal koor- en liedcycli, evenals individuele liederen.
