Krzysztof Meyer is een vooraanstaande Poolse componist, pianist en musicoloog, geboren in 1943 in Krakow. Zijn muzikale reis begon al op jonge leeftijd, toen hij op vijfjarige leeftijd pianoles kreeg. Meyer studeerde compositie bij de legendarische Krzysztof Penderecki en muziektheorie aan de Staatsmuziekschool in Krakow, waar hij later ook doceerde en zelfs vice-rector was. In 1987 verhuisde hij naar Duitsland, waar hij professor compositie werd aan de Hochschule für Musik in Keulen, een positie die hij tot zijn pensioen in 2008 bekleedde.

Meyer's werk omvat een breed scala aan genres, met een sterke focus op kamermuziek. Zijn composities weerspiegelen de diverse muzikale invloeden van de 20e eeuw, die hij in zijn jeugd in Oost-Europa ervaarde. Naast zijn werk als componist en docent, was Meyer ook dean van de Afdeling Muziektheorie aan de Staatsmuziekschool en voorzitter van de Poolse Componistenunie.
