Louis Marchand (1669-1732) was een briljante Franse organist, klavecinist en componist uit de barokperiode, geboren in een familie van organisten. Als wonderkind verwierf hij al op jonge leeftijd faam als een van de meest bekwame Franse virtuosen van zijn tijd. Zijn carrière was gemarkeerd door een stormachtig temperament en een arrogante persoonlijkheid, wat leidde tot tal van schandalen die zowel tijdens zijn leven als daarna veel opzicht baarden. Ondanks zijn roem zijn slechts weinige van zijn werken bewaard gebleven, voornamelijk uit zijn vroege jaren. Werken zoals 'Grand dialogue' en 'Fond d'orgue' worden echter geprezen als klassiekers van de Franse orgelschool.
