György Ligeti, geboren in 1923 in Transsylvanië, Roemenië, was een visionair componist die een onuitwisbare stempel drukte op de wereld van de hedendaagse klassieke muziek. Als een van de meest invloedrijke avant-gardisten van de twintigste eeuw, staat Ligeti bekend om zijn innovatieve en veelzijdige composities die variëren van knapperige opera's met virtuoze aria's tot mysterieuze klanklandschappen.
