Maurice André, geboren in 1933 in Alès, was een Franse trompettist die de klassieke muziekwereld onuitwisbaar heeft gemarkeerd. Als zoon van een mijnwerker en amateurmusicus, kreeg André al op jonge leeftijd de trompet in handen geduwd. Zijn talent werd snel herkend en hij studeerde bij een vriend van zijn vader, die hem aanraadde naar het conservatorium te gaan. André ontwikkelde een unieke klank en techniek op de trompet, waardoor hij de instrumenten een nieuwe populariteit gaf.
