Édouard Lalo, geboren in 1823 in Lille, was een Franse componist, violist en viool- en celloleerling aan de conservatoria van Rijsel en Parijs. Hoewel hij pas na zijn vijftigste succes oogstte, is zijn muziek vandaag de dag nog steeds geliefd. Zijn meest beroemde werk, de "Symphonie Espagnole," is een vijfdelig vioolconcert dat een vaste waarde is in het standaard repertoire.
