Over Kalevi Aho

Kalevi Aho, geboren in 1949 in Forssa, Finland, is een prominente figuur in de hedendaagse Finse muziek. Zijn muzikale reis begon met de mandoline, maar al snel ontdekte hij zijn passie voor compositie. Na zijn studies aan de Sibelius Academie in Helsinki en in Berlijn, groeide Aho uit tot een van de drie grote namen in de Finse muziekwereld, naast Einojuhani Rautavaara en Kaija Saariaho. Aho staat bekend om zijn voorliefde voor soloconcerten, waarvan hij er al meer dan dertig heeft geschreven sinds 1981. Zijn werk omvat een breed scala aan instrumenten en genres, van viool- en celloconcerten tot werken voor sopraansaxofoon en kamerorkest. Met zijn unieke en creatieve benadering van muziek biedt Kalevi Aho een rijke en divers muzikaal ervaring.
