Jean-Pierre Duport, geboren in Parijs op 27 november 1741 en overleden in Berlijn op 31 december 1818, was een invloedrijke Franse cellist van de late 18e en vroege 19e eeuw. Samen met zijn broer Jean-Louis Duport, eveneens een bekende cellist, speelde hij een cruciale rol in de muzikale levens van Frankrijk en Duitsland. Duport was de zoon van een dansmeester en studeerde bij Martin Berteau, de grondlegger van de Franse celloschool. Zijn werk omvat een reeks cellosonates die nog steeds bewonderd worden voor hun virtuositeit en diepgaande expressie, waardoor hij een blijvende invloed heeft gehad op de wereld van de klassieke muziek.
