Leoš Janáček's opera "The Excursions of Mr. Brouček" is een unieke en absurde komedie die de chronische morele tekortkomingen van de Tsjechische man blootlegt. Deze nieuwe studio-opname, uitgevoerd door vooraanstaande solisten, koor en orkest van het Nationaal Theater, biedt een rijkdom aan muziek en humor die de grenzen van de opera uitdagen.
De opera, gebaseerd op twee romans van Svatopluk Čech, volgt de avonturen van de landheer Matěj Brouček uit Praag, een man die zichzelf als een alwetende en wezenlijke oplossingszoeker ziet, maar in werkelijkheid een beperkt en onvolwassen karakter is. De opera is opgedeeld in twee delen: de eerste helft speelt zich af op de maan, waar Brouček wordt geconfronteerd met een wereld die zijn beperkte voorstellingskracht uitdaagt. De tweede helft brengt hem terug naar de 15e eeuw, waar hij wordt geconfronteerd met de Taborieten, een radicale religieuze beweging.
De compositie van Leoš Janáček is een meesterwerk van ironie en satire, waarbij hij de menselijke zwakheden en de absurditeit van het leven op een humoristische manier belicht. De muziek is rijk en divers, met een mix van kamermuziek en opera-ariën die de complexiteit van de personages en de situaties weergeven.
Deze opname, uitgegeven door SUPRAPHON a.s., biedt een unieke kans om de unieke stijl van Leoš Janáček te ervaren.
