Dit album biedt een diepgaande blik in het meesterlijke werk van Leoš Janáček, een van de meest invloedrijke componisten van de 20e eeuw. Het album omvat drie belangrijke werken: "The Diary of One Who Disappeared," "Nursery Rhymes" en "Moravian Folk Poetry." Het album werd uitgebracht op 28 juni 2019 door Hyperion en bevat meer dan een uur aan prachtige kamermuziek.
"Zápisník zmizelého," of "The Diary of One Who Disappeared," is een half uur durend Tsjechisch liedencyclus voor tenor, alt, drie andere vrouwenstemmen en piano. Voltooid in 1919, is dit werk vaak beschouwd als het hoogtepunt van Janáček's liedproductie. Het is een uniek en diepgaand werk dat de intense en obsessieve liefde van de componist voor zijn muze Kamila Stösslová weerspiegelt. De liedencyclus is gebaseerd op gedichten van Ozef Kalda en vertelt het verhaal van een man die zijn geliefde zoekt en uiteindelijk verdwijnt.
Naast "The Diary of One Who Disappeared" bevat het album ook een uitvoering van "Nursery Rhymes" (Říkadla), een verzameling van acht kinderrijmpjes die door dierfiguren worden gedomineerd. Deze uitvoering wordt verrijkt door de levendige klarinet van Victoria Samek. Het album sluit af met een selectie van Moravische volksdichten, die de rijke culturele erfenis van de regio weerspiegelen.
