Jan Novák, geboren op 8 april 1921 in Nová Říše, Moravië, was een invloedrijke Tsjechische componist van klassieke muziek. Zijn carrière bloeide vooral in de jaren zestig, waar hij de muziek componeerde voor verschillende films van de bekende Tsjechische regisseur Karel Kachyňa. Novák studeerde zijn vak in Tsjecho-Slowakije en de Verenigde Staten, wat zijn muziek een unieke en internationale dimensie gaf. Zijn werken, zoals die voor de films "The High Wall" en "Závrat", tonen zijn talent voor het creëren van diepgaande en emotionele composities die de kijker meeslepen in een wereld van klank en gevoel.
