Jacques Arcadelt was een Franco-Vlaamse componist uit de Renaissance, wiens muziek zowel in Italië als Frankrijk zijn stempel drukte. Hij staat vooral bekend om zijn wereldwijde invloedrijke madrigalen, een vorm van wereldlijke vocale muziek die hij meesterlijk beheerste. Zijn eerste bundel madrigalen, die binnen een decennium na de introductie van het genre werd gepubliceerd, werd de meest gedrukte verzameling van zijn tijd. Naast zijn madrigalen was Arcadelt ook een meester in het componeren van chansons, vooral later in zijn carrière toen hij in Parijs woonde.
