Over Hubert Parry

Hubert Parry, geboren als Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry, was een invloedrijke Engelse componist, muziekpedagoog en muziekhistoricus van de late 19e en vroege 20e eeuw. Geboren in Bournemouth in 1848, begon Parry zijn carrière met zijn eerste belangrijke werken in 1880. Hij is vooral bekend om zijn koorwerken, waaronder het beroemde "Jerusalem" en het coronatiehymne "I was glad". Daarnaast componeerde hij vijf symfonieën, een set van Symphonic Variations, en de muziek voor het Newfoundlandse provinciale volkslied, "Ode to Newfoundland". Parry's bijdragen aan de Engelse muziek zijn onmiskenbaar en zijn werk blijft vandaag de dag nog steeds bewonderd en uitgevoerd.
