Orlando Gibbons, geboren in 1583 en overleden in 1625, was een van de meest vooraanstaande componisten en toetsenisten van de Engelse Gouden Eeuw. Als een van de laatste meesters van de Engelse Virginalist- en Madrigal School, staat hij bekend om zijn overgangsrol van de Renaissance naar de Barok.
