Cesare Pugni (1802–1870) was een Italiaanse componist die vooral bekend staat om zijn bijdragen aan de balletmuziek. Geboren in 1802, maakte hij zijn debuut als componist in 1826 met de opera "Elerz e Zulmida" bij La Scala. In de jaren 1840 werkte hij nauw samen met Arthur Michel Saint-Leon en creëerde hij meesterwerken zoals "Le Violon Du Diable" (1849). Pugni's werk omvat een breed scala aan composities, waaronder balletmuziek, opera's en stukken voor slaginstrumenten.
