Girolamo Frescobaldi, geboren in 1583 in Ferrara, was een van de meest invloedrijke componisten en virtuoze toetsenisten van de late Renaissance en vroege Barok. Als kindprodigie studeerde hij onder de beroemde Luzzasco Luzzaschi en werd hij beïnvloed door tal van andere componisten.
