César Franck, geboren op 10 december 1822 in Luik, was een invloedrijke figuur in de Romantische muziekwereld. Als componist, pianist, organist en muziekpedagoog droeg hij bij aan de ontwikkeling van de Franse muziek door deze een diepere emotionele laag te geven. Franck is vooral bekend om zijn symfonische en instrumentale werken, waaronder zijn beroemde Symfonie in d en Vioolsonate in A.
