Richard Flury, geboren in 1896 in Biberist, was een vooraanstaande Zwitserse componist en dirigent wiens muziek een neoromantische stijl combineert met verrassende ritmische ontwikkelingen. Zijn muzikale reis begon al op jonge leeftijd, geïnspireerd door zijn vader, een restaurateur en talentvolle amateur-trompettist. Flury studeerde compositie bij Hans Huber en Joseph Marx en volgde een dirigentencursus bij Felix Weingartner. Gedurende meer dan dertig jaar was hij muziekleraar aan de Solothurn Kantonsschool en dirigeerde hij het Solothurn City Orchestra, evenals verschillende andere lokale orkesten en kooren.

Flury's oeuvre omvat vier opera's, zeven symfonieën, vier vioolconcerten en twee pianoconcerten, naast een rijke collectie kamermuziek. Zijn werken, zoals de Eerste en Vierde Symfonie, zijn bekend om hun sterke gevoel van plaats en diepgaande emotionele expressie.
