Louise Farrenc (1804-1875) was een baanbrekende Franse componiste, pianist en docente uit de romantische periode. Geboren als Jeanne-Louise Dumont in een kunstzinnige familie, toonde ze al op jonge leeftijd talent voor de piano en componeerde ze een breed scala aan werken, waaronder drie symfonieën, koorwerken, kamermuziek en pianostukken. Farrenc was de enige vrouwelijke professor aan het prestigieuze Parijs Conservatorium, waar ze niet alleen lesgaf, maar ook een boek over uitvoeringsstijl co-redigeerde. Haar muziek, vaak in een Beethoveniaanse stijl, werd hoog gewaardeerd, ondanks de uitdagingen die ze als vrouw in een mannendominante muziekwereld tegenkwam. Haar Nonet is een van haar meest bekende werken, dat haar unieke stijl en innovatieve geest weerspiegelt.
