Emil Sjögren, geboren als Johan Gustav Emil Sjögren, was een invloedrijke Zweedse componist en organist van het einde van de 19e en het begin van de 20e eeuw. Geboren in Stockholm in 1853, toonde hij al op jonge leeftijd een uitzonderlijk muzikaal talent. Na zijn studies aan het Stockholm Conservatory vervolgde hij zijn opleiding in Berlijn, waar hij werd beïnvloed door de Duitse romantische traditie. Deze invloeden zijn duidelijk te horen in zijn latere werken.

Sjögren is vooral bekend om zijn solo- en koorliederen, die een diepgaande expressiviteit en variatie vertonen. Zijn vijf vioolsonates, met name de beroemde E-moll sonate, zijn ook van groot belang.
