Camarón de la Isla, geboren als José Monje Cruz, was een legendarische Spaanse flamencozanger met Roma-achtergrond. Geboren op 5 december 1950 in San Fernando, Cádiz, groeide hij op in een arme familie en ontwikkelde zich al snel tot een van de grootste namen in de flamencowereld. Met zijn unieke stem en innovatieve stijl, die zowel traditionele flamenco als moderne invloeden omvatte, veroverde hij de harten van fans over de hele wereld. Camarón de la Isla overleed op 2 juli 1992 in Badalona, Barcelona, maar zijn muziek leeft voort en blijft een inspiratiebron voor nieuwe generaties.
