Beat Furrer is een Zwitsers geboren Oostenrijkse componist en dirigent, geboren op 6 december 1954 in Schaffhausen. Hij verhuisde in 1975 naar Wenen en is sindsdien een prominente figuur in de wereld van de avant-garde muziek. Furrer is de oprichter van het ensemble Klangforum Wien en heeft sinds 1991 een professoraat in compositie aan de Universiteit voor Muziek en Podiumkunsten Graz. Zijn muziek staat bekend om zijn hakkelende, rammelende en uitgeklede klanken. In 2018 ontving hij de prestigieuze Ernst von Siemens Muziekprijs. Furrer zal in 2024 zijn 70e verjaardag vieren en zal als componist-in-resident optreden bij het Lucerne Festival. Zijn werk biedt een diepgaande en meeslepende ervaring voor iedereen die geïnteresseerd is in hedendaagse muziek.
