Ernst von Dohnányi, geboren als Ernö Dohnányi in 1877 in Pozsony (het huidige Bratislava), was een veelzijdig Hongaars musicus die zich een naam maakte als componist, pianist en dirigent. Hij was de wettelijke opvolger van Franz Liszt en droeg bij aan de rijke muzikale erfgoed van Hongarije en Duitsland. Von Dohnányi bracht zijn talenten naar voren in kamermuziek en klassieke pianocomposities, en zijn werk is een getuigenis van zijn virtuositeit en diepe muzikale inzicht.
