Vincent d'Indy (1851-1931) was een invloedrijke Franse componist en muziekpedagoog die een blijvende stempel heeft gedrukt op de muziekwereld van het begin van de 20e eeuw. Als leerling van César Franck en een fervent bewonderaar van Wagner, combineerde d'Indy de rijke harmonieën van de Duitse romantiek met een diepgaand Frans nationalisme. Hij is vooral bekend om zijn rijk georkestreerde werken, zoals zijn beroemde opera "Fervaal" en de "Symphonie cévenole". D'Indy was niet alleen een vruchtbaar componist, maar ook een pionier in de muziekpedagogie. Hij was mede-oprichter van de Schola Cantorum de Paris en de Société nationale de musique, waar hij een belangrijke rol speelde in de promotie van Franse muziek.
