Lyell Cresswell is een New Zealand-Britse componist van hedendaagse klassieke muziek, geboren op 13 oktober 1944 in Wellington, Nieuw-Zeeland. Opgegroeid in een Salvation Army-gezin, studeerde hij in Wellington, Toronto, Aberdeen en Utrecht. Na zijn studies was hij docent aan de Universiteit van Glasgow en werkte hij als muziekorganisator bij Chapter in Cardiff. Cresswell staat bekend om zijn unieke stijl en heeft een indrukwekkend oeuvre opgebouwd. Zijn laatste werk, het Piano Concerto No 3, zal in 2024 in première gaan met het New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
