Daniel-François-Esprit Auber, geboren in 1782, was een van de meest invloedrijke Franse componisten van de 19e eeuw, bekend om zijn bijdragen aan de wereld van de opera. Als directeur van het Parijs Conservatoire en een vooraanstaand figuur in de ontwikkeling van de komische opera, bracht Auber een rijke erfenis aan muziek mee. Zijn werken, zoals "La Muette de Portici" en "Le Domino Noir," zijn nog steeds geliefd en worden wereldwijd opgevoerd.
