Thomas Arne's "Artaxerxes" is een meeslepende operaregistratie die de rijke en dramatische muziek van deze 18e-eeuwse componist tot leven brengt. Arne, bekend om zijn nationale hymne "Rule, Britannia," toont hier zijn vaardigheid in het componeren van opera's met deze drie-akter die gebaseerd is op een libretto van Metastasio. De opera, die oorspronkelijk in de jaren 1760 werd gecomponeerd, biedt een rijke mix van aria's en recitatieven die de luisteraar meeslepen in een verhaal van liefde, verraad en intrige aan het hof van de Perzische koning Artaxerxes.
