Albert Roussel, geboren op 5 april 1869 in Tourcoing, was een Franse componist wiens muziek een boeiende evolutie doormaakte. Na zeven jaar als vaandrig te hebben gediend, wendde Roussel zich als volwassene tot de muziek en groeide uit tot een van de meest prominente Franse componisten van de interbellumperiode. Zijn vroege werken werden sterk beïnvloed door de impressionistische stijl van Debussy en Ravel, maar later ontwikkelde hij een neoklassieke stijl. Roussel's muziek staat bekend om zijn lyrische vurigheid en de strenge techniek, waardoor zijn composities zowel diepgaand als toegankelijk zijn. Zijn oeuvre omvat een breed scala aan genres, met een sterke focus op kamermuziek. Roussel overleed op 23 augustus 1937 in Royan, maar zijn muziek blijft vandaag de dag inspirerend en tijdloos.
