  Seriously overlooked. This album's got some awesome tracks, such as "Ships with sails" & "Tightrope ride". Alright, Krieger n Manzarek might not be Morrison, but they really hold their own, Manzarek in particular.

  If I'm honest, this album might have been better received if it had a different name, similar to how Joy Division transformed into New Order post-Ian Curtis. It's alright, but it doesn't quite match up to the band's 60s work.

• Underappreciated Doors Experiment

  For at least two decades, I've been an enormous fan of The Doors, ever since I watched Oliver Stone's film as a young teen. I've played the first six albums on repeat, but this is the first time I've given Other Voices a listen. I agree, it's an underappreciated album. Maybe not "great," but certainly not "terrible." 'Ships w/ Sails' is an INCREDIBLE song! Not too far behind are 'In The Eye Of The Sun' and 'Tightrope Ride' — all three tracks sound quite a bit like the band from the 60's. Of course, Morrison's vocals and lyrics are sorely missed, even the track titles feel odd and ¿empty?, as if The Doors' entire "mysticism" has vanished. The music is different too, with Other Voices being more serious and subdued, featuring fewer psychedelic parts and bold choruses. Instead, there are more basslines and acoustic/ragtime-like keyboards, rather than Manzarek's signature electric keyboards and organ. Perhaps it was a misstep to experiment with new styles WHILE also dealing with Morrison's absence.

  Got myself a brand new, unopened copy of this. It sounds fantastic. Though, no double-sided lyrics sheet was thrown in.
