Jan Dismas Zelenka, geboren in 1679 in Louňovice pod Blaníkem, was een Boheemse componist en musicus van de barokperiode. Zijn muziek staat bekend om de harmonische inventiviteit en meeslepende contrapunt. Zelenka was een tijdgenoot en vriend van Johann Sebastian Bach en werd bewonderd door componisten als Telemann en Hasse voor zijn originele stijl en diepgaande muzikale taal. Na zijn opleiding aan het Praagse Jezuïetencollege verhuisde hij in 1710 naar Dresden, waar hij hoofdcontrabassist werd van het hoforkest.
